The working group for materials chemistry and coating technology is responsible for teaching the natural sciences in all the vocational disciplines represented at the IBW. The denomination "materials chemistry and coating technology" refers to the fact that materials such as coating materials, adhesives, coverings and other materials that can be considered organic building materials are a central component of the training in the vocational specialisation of coating technology and interior design. Accordingly, the research is oriented towards the material science aspects as well as the didactic question of teaching such contents.
In addition to these scientific-technical aspects, design aspects are also worked on.
The research interests currently include in particular:
- Access to scientific and materials fundamentals by means of digitised experiments
- Materials, durability and damages of coated industrial floors
- Materials science analyses of hydrophobising substances
- Design projects on concrete tasks from residential and industrial areas
